What is appropriate to wear to a new years eve wedding reception?

These are people ages 25-40yrs. The wedding they are having is short (only 10min) with family only. Then they are having a big reception "club" style I was told. I as just going to wear a black sleeveless mini-dress that has just a few sequins around the botom with some strappy black shoes. I'd rather wear my tall black boots, but that doesn't seem appropriate. I guess my feet will just have to suffer. It's also going to be cold!!!
