How can some Christians deny the logic and clarity of this statement?

It is arrogant, I speculate its because they can't think beyond their own lives, but so many people do this, its not really shocking that a few Christians haven't questioned it on a global level. Dougl Adam's (atheists not excluded) metaphor is solid, and if i hadn't already believed the meaning behind it, i probably would've believed it from then on.
